Nestled on the picturesque Homosassa River, our resort boasts a rich history dating back to the late 1800s. Originally founded by B.F. Dutton as a bed and breakfast, it quickly became a beloved retreat for families interested in fishing and hunting. Over the years, despite numerous transformations and name changes, it has remained a family-friendly haven for fishing enthusiasts. Since the late 1880s, wealthy families from the North have flocked to Homosassa to escape the harsh winters and indulge in the area's renowned fishing. Among these visitors were the families of B.F. Dutton and S.S. Houghton, who were partners in the successful Boston retail store, Houghton & Dutton. Their families grew close, often traveling together to Homosassa each winter, and eventually, B.F. Dutton constructed the building that would become the Riverside Lodge.
Our resort continues to honor this tradition, offering a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. Guests can enjoy river tours, manatee tours, airboat rides and fishing charters, or simply unwind with a riverside cocktail as they watch the beautiful gulf
sunset. The antics of the monkeys on Monkey Island, the graceful manatees, and the playful dolphins and many other wildlife species add to the charm of our location. The perfect destination for families, fishing enthusiasts, and anyone seeking an
adventurous escape. Discover the enduring charm of our resort, keeping with the tradition of the original Florida family resort of Homosassa.
